I am doing this Plein Air and it has a lot of work left to be done.

  I enjoy the online still life challenge and just

 completed this watercolor of the June still life.

In hindsight, I probably should have left it a watercolor 

without inking it, but then I learned a lot by doing it.

I kind of like the wonky sketchy look.

I worked on a sketchbook while on a trip to Florida with my friend Elaine. Unfortunately the trip did not work out quite the way we planned and she spent part of it in the Emergency Room at Cape Canaveral Hospital. I did a lot of drawings to pass the time.

Midland Outdoor Painters

My blog has been sorely neglected since the crash of my computer ... but my drawing has not. I attended the Midland Outdoor Painters meetup on Saturday and created this sketch ...

  It was incredibly cold for early June, I was wearing my heavy handknit sweater and a jacket!

Every Day in May - Egg carton

The challenge was to draw an egg carton. But the challenge started long before that after I read an article about eggs, about egg labeling, and about how they keep the chickens who lay eggs and feed them antibiotics and hormones and antidepressants so they will lay more.  I ended up searching the shelves and finding eggs in the organic section -

Seems funny to think of an egg as either organic or inorganic. 

Turkeys and Thumbs

I  can't help it. Every time I look at this I think of a raw turkey ready to be stuck in the oven.  I have been meaning to try again, but then I look at this in despair.   Maybe it is switching to a t shirt instead of using a man's handkerchief like the thumbnails we did in class.  ( link to thumbnails )

At any rate, my new pencils are on order and I am hoping they will come before my Monday colored drawing class and I can make a better French Gray.  Yup ... when in doubt, blame the tools!

Fun email today from weeklyartlesson.com --- Lillian Kennedy explained the origin of the term thumbnail and says somebody someplace used to draw his ideas on his thumbnail.  With my fading vision, I am afraid that is an impossibility, I have trouble enough just seeing my thumbnail to clip the nail but it was a fascinating thought.

I discovered a tutorial for drawing petunias while googling "botanical drawings" and came up with what I consider a pretty decent petunia myself!   Check out Val Webb for some fantastic inspiration.
