Pileated woodpecker

I am told this guy won't be found down in the middle of Michigan where I live, so after seeing one in a nearby tree, I pulled up an image on my ipad to draw and preserve the memory. The one I saw was not in a birch tree, but I gave into a fascination with birchbark and transplanted him. Hopefully no birdwatcher will see my blog and question the authenticy of his perch.

What I didn't capture was the amazing size of this bird ... Think the size of a large squirrel or small rabbit!

Wish I had a red pencil to capture the striking red headband .

Once again I am blogging from my ipad , with a photo emailed ipod to ipad so the size of this image is probably quite small. Considering how un-technological I am, it is a wonder that this post will go up at all!

Wind gauge and tree

This is the wind gauge spinning away on a tempestuous day at Mullett Lake.

I am using Blogsy on my ipad for the first time.

My mac died ... So sad.

Pink FLower Crazy

Another Flower Crazy class project. I am loving this technique --- paint it first in gesso, then watercolor, then a # 2 pencil for the shadows.

Every Day in May - Egg carton

The challenge was to draw an egg carton. But the challenge started long before that after I read an article about eggs, about egg labeling, and about how they keep the chickens who lay eggs and feed them antibiotics and hormones and antidepressants so they will lay more.  I ended up searching the shelves and finding eggs in the organic section -

Seems funny to think of an egg as either organic or inorganic.

Every Day in May Spoon

Today's challenge was to draw a spoon and then blog about it. We used to go to a fantastic frozen yogurt place in Chicago when we visited Steve. They had plastic cups and spoons that turned blue when they touched the frozen yogurt. The yogurt was good too!  But it was that frozen bitter kind ... first time I went I had hot fudge on it, and really learned how bitter it could taste. After that I had berries with it and it was refreshing and yummy.

Every day in May

I got a bit of a late start with the Every Day in May drawing challenge --- yesterday's challenge was to draw something sweet.

There were 3 strawberries ... but I ate one before I could draw it!

Paint and Draw Together

This isn't finished ...
It was done in colored pencil.  I think it needs more color!
But I am afraid to spoil it!

I found a site where artists all create from the same reference photo. This challenge ends in a week. I think I will work on mine some more before I submit it.
