This exercise really helped me with shading a head --- first I did an egg and shaded it, then added features. I think my third attempt shows promise and after about 100 more, I will be much improved!
So I used a watercolor pencil and a mister, and here you can see how that went for me!

Practice makes perfect...and you're definitely on your way to being a super drawer or sketcher, whatever the correct term should be.
